If you’ll consume just one and a half ounces of almonds a day, you’ll get some relieve and maybe even heal the problem.
You see nuts are high in fiber, they’re great for keeping things balanced in your tummy. Setup inside your gut is a little community of microbiota that you need to keep that balance, naturally.
With a pool of 29 parents and their kids, researchers had them eat one and a half ounces (for the parents) and half an ounce (for the kids) of almonds (they could also use almond butter which is a very tasty replacement for peanut butter.) They did it every day for 21 days.
At this point things get messy (for the researchers). They analyzed all the stool samples checking for microbiota. They also looked for immunoglobulin A in their saliva. Immunoglobulin is an antibody that plays a very important role in gastrointestinal health, particularly in immune function in the mucous membranes
Now, the participants of this study also kept daily diaries regarding their health and diet.
After just two weeks, the average parent and children were getting much better health scores, with the children having even better results.
While in this short time period, only very low level microbiota changes were observed, researchers concluded that a moderate intake of almonds will improve diet quality in adults and children and that it does stimulate microbiota composition.
